Number one with a bullet
The number one hit for the ides* of November 1974 was Bachman Turner Overdrive's "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet", which is actually a song I like. I have a not-so-secret fondness for cheeseball music, which I guess this is.
I fare less well for my 21st birthday, which was cursed with the less than salubrious sounds of Mariah Carey's "Fantasy". Whenever I think of Mariah Carey, I remember a Rolling Stone interview from 1991 where Michael Stipe says that he knows nothing about her apart from the fact that her name rhymes with pariah.
* Not officially an ides, though, because for whatever reason, it only applies to the 15th of March, May, July, and October and to the 13th of the other months, oh those wacky Romans and their wacky calendar. But saying it's the ides of November is more fun than saying it's the opening day of deer hunting (rifle) season in Michigan. Which it is. Bang bang, Bambi.
