How did you pick your Vox name? Does it mean something?
Submitted by LeendaDLL.
It's my first name spelled backwards. I've been using it as a handle online for the last 6 years or so--I actually prefer to use Natalie, but it's taken 95% of the time, but eilatan isn't about 70% of the time.
I'm just not a nickname-y sort of person. I like my name and that's what I want people to use when referring to me. It's distinctly weird when I play World of Warcraft and when I'm using Ventrilo with fellow guildies to hear them use my character name instead of, well, my name. But I'm getting used to it.
What's your sign? What do you think of astrology and horoscopes?
I'm a Scorpio and while I tend to not believe in much of what astrology says, I do have to say that I look smoking in dark red. Which you wouldn't think, as I'm a pasty white person with blue eyes and light brown hair, but it's true.
Also, a propos of nothing at all, I just placed my order for a John Wesley Harding concert DVD. I'm very excited--it's a DVD of the performace at last year's Bumbershoot in Seattle (I think it's in Seattle) and it's basically the Love Hall Tryst CD performed live. And I'm assuming that I'm getting one of the first 5,000 copies, so I'll also be getting a bonus CD. Yay!
What do you collect?
- Cherry Ames books--I have almost a complete set at this point
- John Wesley Harding CDs and live recordings
- I have a lot of MP3s of "O Holy Night", but I don't think it's a collection, as I don't seek them out, they just seem to find their way to me
I really don't collect too much else, mainly because I have no place to display a collection of stuff. Books and CDs are one thing, because I have dedicated spaces for them, but other things just don't have a space here. And I don't want to call my yarn/fiber/embroidery stash a collection, because it's not--it's supplies.
How many places have you lived in your life?
Too damn many. A list:
- Honolulu, HI
- Somewhere near Mare Island, CA
- Norfolk, VA
- Virginia Beach, VA
- Chesapeake, VA
- Bloomfield Hills, MI
- Clarkston, MI
- Kalamazoo, MI (dorms)/Clarkston, MI
- Kalamazoo, MI (Apartment 1)/Clarkston, MI
- Kalamazoo, MI (Apartment 2)/Clarkston, MI
- Middleville, MI
- Macomb, MI
- Sterling Heights, MI
- Utica, MI
- Lincoln, NE
- New Castle, DE (with Baf & her husband)
- New Castle, DE (current apartment)
What's your middle name? Is there a story or history behind it?
It's Ann. No story that I know if, it's just a name my dad liked--he named me. He and my mom had a deal where he'd name the girls and she'd name the boys, with approval. I was almost Naomi (too Jewish) or Natasha (too Russian) before it was settled that I'd be Natalie. There was also a Hawai'ian name my dad wanted to give me that my mother rejected--and I'm glad she did. I'd feel really weird being a white girl (albeit a wahine haole*) with a Polynesian name. My dad doesn't remember what it was anymore.
I'm still sad that I am an Ann with no E, though. Sigh.
* wahine haole = female white person, generally born in Hawai'i, which I was. My mother used to call me her wahine haole sometimes.
What is your browser's default home page set to?

At home, it's Gmail. At work, it's the Corporate Behemoth's intranet, although I never actually look at it.
What's the nerdiest thing about you?
Um... The fact that I just made a totally geeked out blog post about Excel?
Among other reasons, too.
How well do you know your next-door neighbors?
I don't. She just moved in this past weekend and I haven't had a chance to say hello yet. Although I normally don't talk to my neighbors at all, because they come and go so much--I suspect that we're pretty unusual for staying in the same apartment for almost four years. I'm hoping that we'll be able to move into a bigger place soon, though--probably in the same complex, but you never know, either.
What's one thing that you'd like to get done this weekend? Is there anything holding you back?
Get all my book reviews written! I've just finished the fifth, but I still have three books to read. The only thing holding me back is my need to procrastinate in between books. I'm currently torn between doing another book tonight and only having two to deal with tomorrow, or saying "screw it" and playing Warcraft for the rest of the night. Then again, I can play Warcraft the rest of the night if I read a third book today, too.
Decisions, decisions...
What is your current computer desktop image? Let's see it!
My friend Rebekkah took this picture for a knitalong and I liked it so much that I asked for a copy to use as my desktop. I think it's a pretty neat picture.
